Lighthouses of Prayer

What is a Lighthouse of Prayer?

Lighthouses of Prayer are groups of two or three or more people who agree together to pray, care and share the Good News wherever they are. This can happen in a neighbourhood or workplace. It could simply be in their street as they pray for their neighbours, reach out with acts of kindness and befriend those around them. When this praying and caring culture has been established opportunities to share our faith are often more readily available to us. Telling people about the Good News is often easier when they have already, through our prayers for them and our care towards them, experienced something of what it means.

Lighthouses can be small groups in the church. Lighthouses can involve people from different churches who live in the same area and working together, as an expression of unity in Christ, can impact that area by being and sharing the Good News.

Lighthouses are not a short term activity but the developing of a lifestyle that is not constrained by time. It is the pursuit of God’s Kingdom established in and through our own lives. It is the great commission lived out daily by lives laid down for this purpose. It is also the quickest way to make new friends.

There are over 100 towns and cities around the nation in which Lighthouse groups are now meeting. This vison is certainly impacting Scotland.

Lighthouse Training Days:

These are taking place all over the country now. Several have happened in the central belt, Dumfries and as far north as Orkney. These are usually held on a Saturday from around 10.00am till 3.00pm but we can be very flexible with the format and time constraints. During these times we explain the vision and model the 3 core parts of being a Lighthouse of Prayer. This is done through presentations, group activity workshops and lots of participation by everyone. The result is usually seen in the smiling faces of people who have been genuinely encouraged during the day.
