What is it?
Pray for Scotland is a prayer network for revival that seeks to bring unity in prayer across denominations and church groups. We seek to encourage the mobilisation of God's people to pray for revival in the church and the transformation of society in Scotland.
Present emphasis is to cover every city, street and home in the nation in prayer through prayer-walking and give every encouragement.
Pray for Scotland grew out of the ministry of David Black, who, with his wife Jean, worked over many years to develop good relationships among Christians from different denominations, groupings and organisations in Scotland. He encouraged a togetherness in prayer in various ways including national prayer calls to which most of the Christian denominations and Christian organisations supported.
In order to continue and to develop the work of Pray for Scotland, David brought together from around Scotland a core group with a variety of church backgrounds, ministry experience, and age, and this team was given responsibility for the work of Pray for Scotland shortly before his death in October 2003.
In 2002, David wrote, "We believe that the focus for the next three years is to pray and prepare for a spiritual harvest." He left us the challenge: "to invade the nation and every neighbourhood with united, believing and persistent prayer."
How does is it work?
A group of trustees oversees the organisation in accordance with Charity Commission requirements. The work of Pray for Scotland is funded by the donations of individuals, groups, churches and some trusts. Pray for Scotland is a Scottish charity, number SC029844.
The core group seek vision then plan and promote the work of Pray for Scotland accordingly. This group is chaired at present by Pastor Bert McKaig and our National Coordinator is Jean Black.. A part-time administrator takes care of publications, resources and correspondence and another member of the core team deals with financial matters.
